This Engineering Specialist I will serve as a Mechanical Estimator for the Construction & Major Maintenance group of Central Engineering. This position is responsible for the procurement of plumbing, mechanical, fire protection, and site utility construction materials and equipment for large-scale commercial and institutional construction projects valued from $500,000 to $15+ million dollars. This position will develop construction cost estimates and is responsible for being knowledgeable of plumbing, mechanical, fire protection, and site utility construction. In addition to cost estimate development, this position obtains subcontractor bids, originates contracts, develops contractor submittal packages, and performs subcontractor submittal reviews for compliance with construction plans and specifications as a prelude to final approval by the Designer of Record.

Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following)
Demonstrated experience with Plumbing, Mechanical, Fire Protection, AND/OR Site
Utilities which involved design, estimating AND/OR construction.
Experience with construction drawing (CAD) development, construction tradesman
installations, OR an equivalent combination of engineering education and training.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret building construction project plans/drawings
and specifications.
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel and willingness to learn new
software programs.
Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.
Management Preferences:
Associate's Degree in construction estimating, construction management, or tradesman certification in the Plumbing, HVAC or Fire Protection.
Demonstrated ability to generate plumbing, mechanical, fire protection, OR site utility construction cost estimates.
Experience working with NC EProcurement System for purchase requisition generation, receiving, and authorization of payment.
Knowledge of NC Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fire Protection Building Codes.
Knowledge of NCDOA State Construction Office formal and informal contract requirements.
Knowledge of ductwork raw material take-off.
